The idea for Ace Collins’ novel
Darkness Before Dawn
(Abingdon Press) has been with
him since he was 15, when a hit-and-run drunk driver killed one
of his best friends. “From that
experience, I developed an interest
in understanding the effect
driving under the influence has
on not just society, but individual
lives,” Ace says. “I reworked
my thoughts into a drama that
did more than just hit on the
cold, cruel loss felt by a loved
one from such an accident, but
also brought in such hot-button
topics as abortion, the inequities
of the justice system, and the
toll loss takes on a person’s faith.
This book examines two characters
who each need acceptance
and forgiveness in the worst way.”
