Due to an expected crossroads in the the middle of 2009, A.E. Howard embarked on a journey to figure out exactly what it was she wanted to be doing. Some of the answers included starting a backyard farm, doing some photography and web design, and writing her first novel. She and her family live in "an awesome house on a hill with a small menagerie of creatures."

Author A.E. Howard hosted a virtual launch party for her middle-grade fantasy Flight of Blue (Elder Tree Books). The launch party included giveaways, book excerpts, guest blogs and an online chat session. In the book, 12-year-olds Kai and Ellie find an injured talking opossum, and on a quest to get him home, face danger and discover two realms pushing into our own—one of light and one of darkness.
