Adina Senft

Genres:
Amish
Adina Senft grew up in a plain house church, where she was often asked by outsiders if she was Amish (the answer was no). Writing as Shelley Bates, she was the winner of RWA's RITA Award for Best Inspirational Novel in 2005, a finalist for that award in 2006, and, writing as Shelley Adina, was a Christy Award finalist in 2009. A transplanted Canadian, Adina returns there annually to have her accent calibrated.

Christa A. Banister
Drawing from her own experiences when she belonged to a “plain church,” author Adina Senft taps into the single angst that inevitably comes with wedding season in The Hidden Life: An Amish Quilt Novel (FaithWords). “I remember that feeling of panic well as other girls paired off with young men, while I went to singings and gatherings with my girlfriends or by myself,” Adina shares. “With a church so small and a pool of choices even smaller, some of us wondered if we would ever get married—or if we would do the unthinkable and look outside for a mate.”
