Southern writer Charles Martin believes a good story is all about connecting with the characters. “Good characters either suck us in or we set the book down and go do something else. I mean, who doesn’t love Pip. Or Scout. See, all I had to do was say their names and all the emotions come flooding back. Why? Because we love them. We’re pulling for them,” shares Charles. “Thunder and Rain [Center Street] is the story of a retired Texas Ranger who rescues a homeless woman and her daughter at a truck stop and takes them back to west Texas to his ranch, where his son is waiting on the front porch for his mom to come home—not another woman and her daughter. The story is about the intersection of their lives.”
