Janet Lee Barton

Janet Lee Barton

Genres:
Romance
Janet Lee Barton has lived all over the southern U.S., but she and her husband plan to now stay put in Oklahoma. With three daughters and six grandchildren between them, they feel blessed to have at least one daughter and her family living in the same town. Janet writes stories that show that the love between a man and a woman is at its best when the relationship is built with God at the center.

Q&A: Janet Lee Barton (Love Calling)

(March 2013)
We ask Janet Lee Barton five questions about Love Calling (Heartsong Presents): Two orphans separated by life have been reunited but can they rediscover their trust in each other before it's too late?

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WRITING LOVE CALLING?
I wanted to show how we must look to the Lord to lead us in all aspects of our lives and to explore how women's rolls changed over time in our society. And I love writing about historical New York City.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH STORY TO WRITE?
For the time frame and setting of the stories I am writing, there are so many ideas it is sometimes hard to choose. But I feel the Lord steers me toward the ones I need to write next.

WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES FROM THE STORY WHERE YOU DREW ELEMENTS FROM REAL LIFE?
I come from a close family and wanted to show that closeness through Emma and Grace who are sisters, and their cousin Esther in this story. The teasing that goes on between them and the deep love and loyalty they share for each other, and their faith in God all come from real life.

IN LOVE CALLING, WHO IS THE CHARACTER WHO SURPRISED YOU MOST?
The character who surprised me most was Grace, the youngest cousin. She has a mind of her own and isn't afraid to voice it.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
I am working on a proposal for the third story in the Love Inspired Historical mini-series, Boardinghouse Betrothals. The first story was Somewhere to Call Home, the second is called A Place of Refuge and will be out in September. Although these stories also take place in 1890's New York City, they are not connected to the Heartsong Presents books, Remedy for Love and Love Calling.
