A former Amish himself, best-selling author Jerry Eicher brings an authentic sensibility to his Amish fiction. And now with Missing Your Smile (Harvest House), he tells a different sort of story—namely, what happens when a young woman leaves the community in favor of a brand-new life in Asbury Park.

The author says the Fields of Home series was inspired by his desire to show the “English” world through the eyes of an Amish girl. “More specifically, it’s about an Amish girl who leaves home with the intentions of forsaking the faith. The rest of the plot line unfolded from there—the motivation needed for her to leave, and the inevitable drawing home again. Which often occurs for an Amish girl, as few succeed in leaving the community for good.”
