Kathy Herman adds a hearty shake of Cajun flavoring to False Pretenses (David C. Cook), book one in her suspense series Secrets of Roux River Bayou. She wrote the novel to show the importance of accountability and how a person reaps what he sows. Herman is satisfied the story does that—but wonders whether she overdid the authentic touch. “I craved gumbo the entire time I wrote this story,” she says. “And I have 10 extra pounds to show for it.”
