Bree arrives in Norway and is sent to work as a slave for the family of Mikkel, her Viking captor. She struggles to adjust, feeling worthless and disrespected, and wonders why God wants her in Norway. Her prayers are answered when she is given the opportunity to teach Mikkel’s grandparents to read using an illuminated Bible stolen from an Irish monastery.
