To look at him now, you’d never guess Mark Mynheir—author and veteran police detective— was a high school drop out.

But the Florida native hated school—in particular, putting words on paper. Only later in life did he discover why: He is dyslexic and dysgraphic.

Of course, God has a way of using us despite our weaknesses—and Mark is no exception. After a stint in the Marines and five years into his successful career in law enforcement, he became a Christian—and soon felt the Lord leading him to write. It made little sense to Mark, but he obeyed, spending the next 10 years learning the craft.

His first novel didn’t sell, but his second did. “I look back now and have to laugh at how God works things out.”

Mynheir’s latest book, The Corruptible (Multnomah), is his fifth published novel, and another suspenseful read starring disabled ex-homicide detective Ray Quinn. “This novel was born out of a case I worked on a couple of years ago that really impacted me,” Mark says. “We had a particularly gruesome murder, and the victim had alienated his entire family to the point that no one seemed to care he’d been killed. Very sad, but it sparked the idea for the story. There were a lot of different spiritual and emotional issues I wanted to examine with this book.”
