She served as the full-time director of drama for First United Methodist Church for five years before leaving to stay home and write. She lives with her husband, Sean, a musician, and their children in Oklahoma City.

Rene Gutteridge...comic book writer? It’s true—Rene’s extensive experience writing sketches and scripts has landed her the chance to script a graphic novel about the martyr Perpetua. The name of the project is Martyrs: Volume 1. “It’s a very dramatic and sometimes dark tale,” she says. More info online at

But don’t think she’s given up on novel writing: Those who loved Listen will be happy to know her January 2011 release, Possession (Tyndale House), is stylistically similar. “I wanted to explore the idea of what it means to lose everything,” Rene says, “and what, if any, good can come out of it.”
