Lillian Avery has high
hopes as a Boston pharmacist in the heat of World War II. Though she faces
challenges, she feels energized and enthusiastic. But those challenges would
mean nothing compared to what she would soon face.

Society boy Ensign Archer Vanderberg finds himself
in the midst of war’s dark days, as his destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain.
Shaken by battles at sea, Arch’s men are still struggling with their nerves—and
with drowsiness. Does the answer lie at the bottom of the prescription bottle
Lillian has filled? Arch and Lillian work together to find the answer, but can
Arch ever earn Lillian’s trust and affection?
