Susan May Warren: Past History

(November 1, 2010)
Rel Mollet
Susan May Warren returns to the battlefields of World War II in Nightingale (Summerside Press). Wolfgang Jager—raised in America but serving in the German Army—is captured and returned to a Wisconsin POW camp where he begins to correspond with Nurse Esther Lang, a woman grieving the death of her fiance. “The key to writing a great historical is getting the details right,” says Susan. “Everything from clothing to music to the mindset of the time needs to seep through the pages. It takes me twice as long to write a historical because of all the research to get it right. But there’s nothing better than feeling as if you’ve been transported back in time to another era, to live in their world, consider their choices and understand their lessons.”
