Yvonne Harris delves into the history of America’s oldest law enforcement agency, the famous Texas Rangers, in A River to Cross (Bethany). “After the Civil War, Texas was a dangerous place to live. Criminals, bandits, and Indians moved throughout the state, stealing and murdering at will. To combat them, Texas formed the Texas Rangers. Heavily armed, those legendary Rangers were excellent horsemen, trackers, and superb marksmen,” shares Yvonne. “Rangers refused to wear uniforms or badges. They wore shirts, neckties, vests, and Stetsons, with nothing to identify them as Texas Rangers.” Yvonne’s hero, Ranger Jake Nelson, is devoted to his career until he rescues the kidnapped Elizabeth Madison.
