Authors David and Diane Munson say that whenever they have a chance to do a signing at Sarasota Living Word Christian Bookstore, their experience is always positive!

Manager Renee Davis is very excited to talk about her store and says the staff does many different things to keep their fiction department updated and attractive to their visitors. In fact, the fiction department is at the front of the store, making it easy to find, especially for visitors who are new to the store. The store also hosts a book club that focuses on many different genres and includes time for praise and worship.

Renee says Amish fiction does very well in the store because it is located close to large Amish and Mennonite communities, bringing in customers who are looking for Amish fiction as a way to learn more about the communities and restaurants they just visited.

“Fiction is a great way to be able to learn about different cultures,” Renee says. “Books give me the chance to live with people I normally wouldn’t get to know.”

MULTNOMAH COUNTY LIBRARY

The Multnomah County library system, the largest in Oregon, has 19 branches, meaning it’s easily accessible to everyone in the area. The library system supports its own used bookstore, which is easy to use and will ship any book you choose directly to you. (I got caught up in the bookstore website while researching this article.)

Marketing and Communications Director Jeremy Graybill says the libraries don’t have a separate section for the Christian fiction, but are very willing to provide any patron with a booklist if he or she needs help finding a favorite author. They also use displays to highlight Christian fiction.

“What makes our library so special is our patrons,” Jeremy says. “We are fortunate to have patrons who will tell us what they love to read. We have such a diversity of readers in Multnomah County, so we have a very wide and deep collection.”
