If you are looking for the perfect way to wrap up summer, something you can pick up and enjoy for a few hours at a time, A Gentleman’s Kiss Romance Collection (Barbour) is the perfect book for you! This novella collection brings the talents of nine authors to one book (by Ginny Aiken, Kristin Billerbeck, Lynn A. Coleman, Peggy Darty, Rebecca Germany, Bev Huston, Yvonne Lehman, Gail Sattler and Pamela Kaye Tracy)—each author telling one modern story full of old-fashioned romance. One of the contributing authors, Rebecca Germany, answered our questions about this new anthology…

This collection chronicles modern stories of romance. From where did you draw inspiration?

My story conflict starts with a garden project. I love to grow vegetables, so I was able to draw from my experience. I also used a granddaughter moving in with her elderly grandmother. At the time of writing this, I was buying my parents’ home and they were still living with me.

In your opinion how is modern romance different than it was even a decade ago?

As a 40-something who is still looking for a husband and will occasionally go on a date, I run into a lot of selfish motivations in relationships. People are looking to see what they can get out of a relationship more than what they can give to it. They also seem to be looking for an easy way out of it if things get hard. I see it in both non-Christians and those who consider themselves Christians. Too many confuse temporary pleasures as romance and overlook the joy of a romance that gives without necessarily expecting a return and too many don’t value things like honesty, hard work, commitment, etc., as romantic.

What’s one secret to writing a captivating romance?

Give the couple a strong attraction and put something between them that keeps them apart.
