Mother, Army Sargent, teacher, and author M.C. Pearson’s newest novel, F.A.I.R.I.E.S.: Baptism by Fire has just been awarded a Bronze medal by the 2012 Reader’s Favorite Awards and for good reason – the book plunges readers deep into the military affairs of fairies and puts them on the front lines of spiritual warfare.
WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WRITING F.A.I.R.I.E.S.?

I wanted to create a story that would teach people about spiritual warfare in a new, exciting way. I definitely did not want it to be a ‘bash your head with a Bible’ type of story. I wanted to use scripture, but not in such a way that it seemed added to make it ‘Christian.’ Most of all, I wanted to entertain a variety of age groups, making them laugh and even cry a little.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH STORY TO WRITE?
I love fantasy and sci-fi. I’m also a former Army soldier. The old saying, write what you know, comes to mind. I work with children and young adults and have a real love for them. I also desire to tell others about Christ. So, add it all together and you get fairies who fight for the One.

IN YOUR NEW NOVEL, WHO IS THE CHARACTER IN THIS STORY WHO SURPRISED YOU MOST?
I believe that would be Didasko Lou. She’s an Amazon warrior who teaches at the  F.A.I.R.I.E.S. academy. She’s tough and loud, your basic Drill Instructor. But she has a strangely sweet side that she hides from the recruits. She made me laugh while I wrote about it.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE READERS GET OUT OF YOUR WORK?
I hope that readers will sigh happily when they finish reading, and then rush to the computer to see when the next installment will be published. No, really, I hope that they will laugh a lot, and that they can honestly say that I’ve brought them joy and hope.

Q: WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
I’m working on F.A.I.R.I.E.S.: Oh, Pixie Dust! (Book Two of the Realm Series) AND a stand alone novel titled Cheat Codes for Life. In Oh, Pixie Dust! Mellie continues her journey as a Chosen member of the F.A.I.R.I.E.S., trying to learn why all the elves have disappeared…but something has gone horribly wrong. Her roommate, Lizzy, is no longer speaking to her. The supply scronger, Pooka, is more than strange. And when a pixie named Morph decides to ‘help,’ Mellie learns why pixies have been avoided by the Squads for so long. In Cheat Codes for Life a gamergirl named Sarah decides to check out a new website that was recommended to her during a chat online, she goes from high school grunge to cheerleader in the time it takes to press ‘Enter.’
