The author talks about her contemporary romance, CATT CHASIN’:

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR CATT CHASIN’?
It
was inspired by a good friend of mine. After my divorce, he anointed
himself as my dating coach. He gave me a lot insider male secrets like
the basketball dating rotation and little tests and traps men set for women to
see if they’re “worthy.” It was all very fascinating to me (and
disconcerting because we dated in college). I thought it would be a great
premise for a book.

WHO ARE THE AUTHORS WHO INSPIRE YOU?
Zora Neale Hurston is my
all-time favorite author, so I’m definitely inspired by her. I also
really enjoy the authors on the Urban Christian imprint. Unfortunately, I
don’t get to read as much as I used to because I’m always writing.
Q:
HOW DOES YOUR FAITH INFLUENCE YOUR WRITING?
My faith has a big impact
on everything I write. Being an author gives me a voice, but it also
gives me a huge responsibility to represent the Christian faith in a positive
light. I try not to write anything that would hinder anyone’s Christian
walk. The characters I write about are far from perfect, and I try not to
glamorize their mistakes. It is important for my writing to show that, while we
serve a forgiving God, there are consequences for our actions.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN YOU WANTED TO BE AN AUTHOR?
I’ve
always known I wanted to be an author. As a child, my dream was to be
either an author or a flower.

WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE THAT READERS GET FROM READING YOUR WORK?
Of
course, I hope readers are thoroughly entertained, but beyond that, I hope that
they learn there’s always room for improvement, to grow, and to become better.
I always hope that they come away with some spiritual enlightenment and
feeling like reading my book was time and money well spent.
