Q. What inspired When Memories Fade?
After writing the first novel in this series, When Rain Falls, I knew there were at least two minor characters with their own story. I also at the time had an interest in missing person cases and the effects on the family. As the story started to come together I was inspired to include a character with Alzheimer’s in the story as well.
Q. Which comes easier for you, writing the “romance” or writing the “suspense”?
Writing the suspense comes easier for me. Probably 75% of the fiction I read is either a mystery, suspense or thriller. After a few author friends critiqued my first novel, they encouraged me to consider adding romance.
Q. How do you maintain a balance of the two in your fiction?
I do like the dynamics of writing from a female and male point of view. I try to keep the balance by keeping both characters working towards the common goal of solving the mystery. As they work toward the goal, it’s easier to include conflict and tension.
Q. What are some of the TV shows or movies or authors that you think do a great job of balancing the romance with the suspense?
Castle comes to mind as a TV show that balances romance and mystery very well. Some of my favorite romantic suspense authors are Dee Henderson, Terri Blackstock, and Kristin Heitzmann.
Q. In what specific ways does your faith impact how you write fiction?
My faith is what motivates my writing. I consider writing Christian Fiction a ministry. In a unique way you can tell a universal story that encourages a believer or a non-believer. My goal in every story is for God to be center stage just as He should be in our lives.
