The Easter Sunday finale for The Bible: The Epic Miniseries posted a strong finish for the History Channel, with more than 12 million viewers during the two-hour broadcast. The premiere episode of the series, which aired March 3, was cable’s most-watched telecast of the year, with
more than 13 million viewers.
The success of The Bible is opening doors for more religious projects onscreen—including a projected six-hour miniseries Jesus of Nazareth written and produced by Michael Landon Jr. with with Brian Bird, who worked on Touched by an Angel.
Landon told the Hollywood Reporter that their version will be targeted to the skeptics, not believers—but will stay true to the Gospel. “We’re going to be faithful to our favorite book of all time.”
The producers don’t have a U.S. network commitment, but following the success of The Bible, are confident it will happen.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports that traditional Hollywood has two separate films in the works based on the life of Moses: Fox and director Ridley Scott are in discussions with Christian Bale to star in Exodus, while Warner Bros. is hoping to get Ang Lee to direct Gods And Kings.
