Merrillee wrote her first novel and shared it with friends in high school, but years passed before she tried writing anything for publication. She persevered through twenty years' worth of writing, rewriting, rejections and unkind critiques—and in July 2003, Merrillee won the Golden Heart Award from Romance Writers of America for her inspirational romance manuscript, A Place To Call Home.
