NASHVILLE – From Twilight to Tuck Everlasting, there’s
something about
the topic of immortality that strikes a chord with
readers of all ages.
Can our continued fascination with immortality simply be
chalked up to
wanting something we can never have, or is there
something more behind it?

Bestselling author Erin Healy offers her own take on the
quest for
everlasting life with her new supernatural suspense
novel, The Promises
She Keeps
(Thomas Nelson). An
award-winning Christian fiction editor-turned-novelist,
Healy’s latest
work combines the edginess from her previous
collaborations with Ted
Dekker with a distinctly feminine perspective.

“The arts often point to human desire for immortality
because we were
not made to die,” says Healy, whose debut novel, Never
Let You Go
was a 2011 Christianity Today Book
finalist. “Death is a consequence of sin in the world,
and it runs
contrary to God’s design. Our desire for immortality is
the image of God
in us. We should long for it. But instead of turning to
God, we are
tempted by secular culture’s claims that we can achieve
through celebrity or magic. This is where Promise’s
journey starts.”

The Promises She Keeps
follows two very different women
in search of
immortality. Promise, a terminally ill young singer,
believes stardom
will keep her memory alive after she dies. Porta is an
aging witch and
art dealer on a quest to discover the secret to eternal
life through
magical means. After Promise survives a series of
accidents, Porta
believes she holds the key to immortality and will stop
at nothing to
secure it.

Chase, a talented artist with autism who is mysteriously
tapped into the
spiritual realm, falls in love with Promise and makes it
his mission to
save her from Porta’s designs. The Promises She Keeps
ultimately reveals
the real promise of immortality is not in living forever,
but in
embracing eternal love.

Healy currently resides in Colorado Springs, Colo., with
her husband and
two children. She is the owner of WordWright Editorial
Services, where
she specializes in fiction book development for popular
authors such as
Frank Peretti, James Scott Bell and Melody Carlson. She
co-authored the
bestsellers Kiss and Burn with Ted Dekker.
