Thomas Fawkes is turning to stone, and the only cure is to join his father’s plot to assassinate the king of England. In her YA fantasy novel Fawkes (Thomas Nelson), author Nadine Brandes brings fans of historical fantasy and adventure a must-read saga of government corruption, masked war, and a race against the clock.

In 17th century England, Thomas Fawkes, the son of the famed anarchist Guy Fawkes, is infected with the Stone Plague, and the only cure is to join his father’s Gunpowder Plot to assassinate the king of England. Complicating things further, the family of the girl Thomas loves is on the wrong side of the fight.

“Fawkes is a mixture of history and fantasy,” says Brandes. “It maintains all of the true historical events, but I added to the story by creating Guy Fawkes’s son and his story. It is rumored in the history books that Guy Fawkes had a son at the time, and I found myself drawn to imagining what his story might have been like as the teenage son of a revolutionary. To top it all off, I incorporated fantasy magic to represent the religious tension and war taking place in that time period.”

Fawkes by Nadine Brandes hits bookshelves July 10.
