Henry McLaughlin, 2009 winner of Christian Writers Guild’s Operation First Novel, believes his college major in American History helped him accurately reflect an 1870s man in his novel Journey to Riverbend (Tyndale). “Knowing the culture and the history gave me clues about how he would think, how he would see himself and others. I wrote his biography, interviewed him, did a character sketch and even ran him through Myers-Briggs.”

Henry McLaughlin is the 2009 winner of the Christian Writers Guild Operation First Novel Contest. He has a master's in social work and spent many years working in the public child welfare system. Henry and his wife, Linda, have been married for over forty years and live in Saginaw, Texas. They have five children, the oldest of whom is in heaven, and one grandchild.
