Just released to DVD is a fun movie for the whole family, but girls and horse lovers will especially delight in The Greening of Whitney Brown. Preteen Whitney (Sammi Hanratty) is privileged and spoiled. When her parents (Brooke Shields and Aidan Quinn) move her to the family’s country farm, Whitney meets a horse that will change her outlook on life. The equine star of the movie, a distinctive black and white Gypsy Vanner horse, was played by “Odd Job Bob” and his two stunt doubles. Sammi had never ridden before, which gave a genuine feel to her scenes with the horse. Kris Kristofferson also stars as Whitney’s grandfather.
