She launches her New Orleans-set Darkwater Inn series with Darkwater Secrets (Gilead Publishing): A murder investigation uncovers sordid secrets and haunting mistakes. In this interview, Robin talks about the new series, explains why the location is key, and reveals what to expect from the future books…
Robin, Darkwater Secrets is the first book in a new series. What can you tell us about the overarching theme or idea that will connect these books?
This is a series in the true sense of the word—in that the main characters stay the main characters for all three books, all with the same setting. There are additional characters that come through each of the books, but the central characters remain the same.
Darkwater Inn is in the French Quarter in New Orleans. How important is the sense of location to the story?
The setting is one of the characters. There are aspects of the story, and the series, that can take place only in New Orleans. Not only does the Cajun culture background play an important role, but there’s Mardi Gras as part of the plot as well.
What inspired you to set the series there?
I’m a Louisiana girl, born and raised, and it’s different than any other place I’ve lived or visited. I love sharing part of the culture and lifestyle of my home state.
