Ronie Kendig has had a fantastic time writing about our military canine heroes in her A Breed Apart series. In fact, she says the second volume, Talon: Combat Tracking Team, is probably her favorite story she’s ever written. “One thing that quickly became evident in my research for Talon,” the author says, “is that these four-legged heroes are no less prone to combat related trauma than their handlers. The parallel journeys of the hero, Dane, and Talon, the tracking dog, created an unintentional, organic beauty.”
