Q&A: Cecelia Dowdy
Life can be hard on beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Monica’s blind nephew has been abandoned with her. Emily is trying desperately to save her father's dairy farm after he passes away. Karen’s fiancé turned out to be an embezzler. But all is not lost and God has a plan to mend these torn lives and amazing women.
WHAT LED YOU TO WRITE CHESAPEAKE WEDDINGS?
Lots of things. For John's Quest, book one in Chesapeake Weddings, I got the idea from my day job. I work in an environment that has lots of scientists/physicists. When I was reading lunch one day, I saw the physicists sitting at another table eating their lunch and I thought: I wonder if any of them are atheists or agnostics. From that point forward, the idea for John's Quest was born.
For Milk Money, book #2 in the Chesapeake Weddings collection, I got the idea from visiting a dairy farm. I'd always wanted to use a dairy farm as my setting, so, the idea of Milk Money was born. Also, I'm an accountant at my day job and my I've known several friends and family members who have suffered from alcoholism.
For Bittersweet Memories, book #3 in the Chesapeake Weddings collection, I got the idea from my fascination with identical twins. I've always been interested in identical twins for some reason and I wanted to use the storyline as a part of my plot for Bittersweet Memories.
STARTING OUT, WHO WERE THE AUTHORS WHO INSPORED YOU? WHO INSPIRES YOU NOW?
Christian Fiction was not around much when I first started writing. I read a plethora of Christian fiction authors and I review Christian fiction titles regularly on my book review blog. It's difficult to name only a few authors that inspired me in the past and present. However, a couple of authors who have been a big help to my writing career with their patience, kind words and advice are Tracie Peterson and Loree Lough..
HOW DOES YOUR FAITH INFLUENCE YOUR WRITING?
I always think about the Bible when I'm writing and about how people can relate to my stories. I know my faith has deepened since I've started writing Christian fiction and I hope my faith comes through when people read my novels.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN YOU WANTED TO BE AN AUTHOR?
I first discovered I wanted to be an author back in the mid-nineties.
WHAT DO YOU MOST HOPE THAT READERS GET FROM READING YOUR WORK?
I hope people will read my book and remember it for a long time. I also hope that they'll be able to recall the faith journeys of my characters.
