Q&A: E.N. Joy (The Sunday Only Christian)

(March 2013)

DO YOU KNOW ANY "SUNDAY ONLY CHRISTIANS" WHO INSPIRED THIS STORY?

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times; when God gives me a message to deliver to His people, the message is for the messenger first. So do I truly know a Sunday Only Christian who inspired this story? I think a simple "yes" says it all. And then to that I can say, in reference to the title of my next divas book that is being released: I Ain't Me No More.

IN THIS BOOK, YOUR MAIN CHARACTER, DEBORAH LEWIS, LIES TO A MAN FOR FEAR OF REJECTION. WHAT IS IT ABOUT DEBORAH THAT WILL MAKE READERS INTERESTED IN HER AS A CHARACTER?

This is a good question, and one that scared me while writing the book. Readers love a main character that they can root for. Well, Ms. Lewis was so flawed to begin with, and then there came flaw on top of flaw. To say the least, her actions did not make her that likable. I feared that if my readers did not like my main character, then they would not like my book. I said a little prayer, then waited on God's response which was, "Daughter, this one is not for your readers to like the character; this one is for your readers who are like the character." I have received testimony after testimony on how connected my readers were with Deborah. God was right (but isn't He always).

HOW MANY BOOKS CAN FANS EXPECT FOR YOUR STILL DIVAS SERIES?

My New Day Divas series included five books: She Who Finds a Husband, Been There Prayed That, Love Honor or Stray, Trying to Stay Saved and I Can Do Better All By Myself. The Still Divas series includes three books: And You Call Yourself a Christian, The Perfect Christian and The Sunday Only Christian. Next on deck is my three book Always Divas series. Book one, I Ain't Me No More, releases October 2013.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE READERS GET OUT OF THIS INSTALLMENT OF STILL DIVAS?

When a reader puts it down, what I want to make sure they walk away with is the power of deliverance, the power of not only receiving God's word, but believing His word in their life.

SOMETIMES AUTHORS PLAY FAVORITES, DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CHARACTER WHEN WRITING THIS BOOK?

Because I put a piece of myself into each character I write about, be it a female or male character, I don't have a favorite per se. But I will name Unique, in And You Call Yourself a Christian, as the most colorful character and the one I have the most fun writing about.
