Q&A: Erynn Mangum (Paige Torn)
Erynn Mangum took a moment to answer five questions about her new book, Paige Torn (NavPress)--the story of a single girl who has no time for love . . . or does she?
Q: What can you tell us about this new series which focuses on your main character, Paige Alder?
This series is about Paige, who has decided that since she is single, she has nothing better to do than to help her friends and her church. She's working a full-time job as well and once people realize she is willing to serve, she's suddenly so busy she can't even breathe. She meets a guy, Tyler, who encourages her that serving God is not necessarily the same thing as having a relationship with him.
Q: What three words would you use to describe Paige?
Busy, Thoughtful, Overwhelmed
Q: What do you think readers will get out of this book?
When I was single, I was a lot like Paige. I filled my days with so much that I sometimes would go weeks between reading my Bible. Everything I was doing was "good" in a sense, but I really had to learn what Paige is told in the book - a need does not constitute a call.
Q: Where do you get your best ideas?
I eavesdrop everywhere I go. Not even kidding. Coffee shops are the best. So are grocery stores, ironically enough. I pay attention to what my friends are going through. And honestly, a lot of my ideas are from things that happened to me personally.
Q: Can you tell us about Paige's love interest in this book, Tyler?
He, of all of the guys I've written about, is the one that I think is the most charming. He's honest with Paige. He's gentle without sacrificing the truth. And he's got faults. The biggest thing I hope for my characters is that they aren't these perfect people who do everything right. Tyler is definitely the most "layered" of all of my leading guys.
