Q&A: Paige Winship Dooly

(August 2011)
The author shares about her 3-in-1 historical romance George Brides (Romancing America): Travel to historic Georgia where life is an extreme challenge for three resolute women.

Q: Your 'Romancing America' book started out as separate titles for the Heartsong Presents readers. Tell us how the individual novels are linked together into a larger picture.
The books for the Georgia Brides (Romancing America) book are freestanding stories, but I did try to cover each area of the state through the stories. I have a story set at the coast, one set outside Atlanta, and one set in the northern mountains.

Q: When you were originally writing the series, how much were you focused on each individual title -- and how much were your eyes on how each piece fit into the larger story?
Again, in this case the stories are freestanding, so I focused on each title, making sure the characters stayed true to the story.

Q: What was your inspiration for the original series? (And how much did your original plan change over the course of the arc?)
I've always liked independent and strong heroines. The Displaced Belle probably changed most as I wrote it. Sometimes its hard to fully grasp the story until you get to "know" the characters. At least that's how it works for me.

Q: How does your faith influence your writing?
My faith influences my stories completely. I analyze how I'd handle a situation and my characters approach situations the same way.

Q: What do you most hope readers get out of your fiction?
I hope my stories encourage and uplift readers. I hope to put smiles on their faces as they read. The world is full of enough hard times so my hope is that readers can "get away" from it all for a bit and put their feet up and enjoy.
